My Life Time Goal - To Achieve Total Fluency

I am fairly sure that the majority of people that have a stutter dream that one day they would be able to speak fluently. This was most certainly the way in which I used to think. In fact I made it my life time goal to achieve total fluency. I knew that it would be far from easy to "stop stuttering therapy" completely but I was more than up for the challenge. I was fully prepared to put in a lot of hard work and was aware that it would take a fair amount of time.

no-stammer-or-stutterDespite having this form of speech impediment I have always tried to live life to the full, with a positive attitude and with a smile on my face. I have been bought up to not accept second best and to also believe in myself. These were characteristics which ultimately would prove to be invaluable in my quest to achieve fluency.

At the end of the day I decided that it was all down to me. Speech and language stammering therapy does not work, well it does not enable people to overcome their stutter. There is not a magic pill or a magic potion that can cure a stutter and any techniques that people learn about require a lot of practice and dedication to make them work.

During the process I came into contact with many negative people; people that perhaps even tried to quell my positivity. Comments such as "there is not a cure for stuttering" is often banded out - normally by losers and people that believe they are doing you a favour. I have a quick message for these people:

"Look guys - just because you do not have the patience, guts, will power or dedication to achieve fluency does not mean that I don't. So just SHUT UP!"

I did manage to achieve my life time goal and I have been speaking fluently for the last fourteen years. I now run The How To Stop Stuttering Centre in England.
